Coyle top gun as Down ease past Queen's
Down 4-16 Queen's 0-8
Down eased into the quarter-finals with a 19-point win over Queen's University at a rain-soaked Dub on Saturday night.
James Coyle netted goals in either half to finish as top-scorer, but he was ably assisted by Danny Toner and Brendan Coleman who posted 1-3 apiece.
Coleman, Toner and Caolan Bailie hit the first three scores before Queen's posted their first score 10 minutes in when Conor Corvan converted the first of five frees.
The wet conditions were making life difficult, but Down continued to dominate and led 0-6 to 0-2 after 20 minutes as Coyle hit the first of his goals when he blasted home after Coleman's free dropped short. This helped Gerard Monan's side establish a 1-10 to 0-4 half-time advantage and Down pushed on in the second half.
Goals from Coleman and Coyle's second extended the gap to 15 points and Toner hit the fourth goal to put the icing on the cake. While the students hit three of the last four points, the outcome was beyond doubt.
