Cox goal ensures Saints retain title

Calry-St Joseph's 2-16 Coolera-S'hill 1-11
Sligo SHC final

Calry-St Joseph's retained the title courtesy of a flattering victory over Coolera-Strandhill at Markievicz Park.

The defending champions led 0-4 to 0-3 at the end of the opening quarter -- Connacht inter-provincial panellist Keith Raymond and David Collery firing over two scores apiece, with Martin O'Reilly (0-1) and Niall Cadden (0-2f) replying for Coolera.

Calry dominated the remainder of the first half and eased into a 0-10 to 0-6 margin by the 30th minute. However, in first-half added-time, Gary Cadden fired home a penalty to leave just a point between the sides at the interval (0-10 to 1-6).

It was tit-for-tat in the second half, before substitute Darragh Cox ensured a sixth title in seven years for Calry-St Joseph's with a 59th-minute goal. Gilmartin then added another goal late on to put the icing on the cake.
