Clynch class turns tables on Kildare

HAVING beaten Meath in two league clashes earlier in the year, Kildare were surprised in this quarter-final at Pairc Tailteann.

A goal from James Kelly after 26 minutes proved to be the difference between the sides at the finish as a fine display by Stephen Clynch inspired the Meath men.

The teams were level five times before Kelly fired to the net en route to a 1-8 to 0-7 half-time lead. Meath maintained pole position after that. Willie Mahady brought off a crucial goal-line save from Kildare's Paul Divilly on 40 minutes and at the other end Peter Durnin spurned a good goal chance.
