Classy O'Brien turfs out DCU

Wicklow 3-17
DCU 1-3

Wicklow's hurlers romped to a semi-final meeting with Meath as a result of this facile win in Bray.

The game was played on Bray's astroturf pitch, which was a great help in the atrocious weather conditions. DCU were reduced to 14 men just before half-time when wing-back Aidan Moran got a straight red card for an off-the-ball offence, but the signs were already ominous for them.

Playing with a gale behind them, the students had a dream start when Donal Walsh drilled to the net inside two minutes. But for the remainder of the half they played second fiddle to a more determined Wicklow side as sharpshooter Andy O'Brien fired over two points. O'Brien put Wicklow ahead (0-4 to 1-0) from another free, while DCU had to wait until the 25th minute for their second score, a point from Sean McGrath. The sides were level at 1-2 to 0-5 at half-time.

DCU were to add only one point in the second half, McGrath again the scorer, while Wicklow imposed themselves on the game with the goals coming from Ronan Keddy, Christy Moorehouse and O'Brien.
