Clare hurler Conor McGrath was admitted to hospital at the weekend with suspected kidney damage after a club game.
McGrath got a straight red card in the first half of Cratloe's 2-8 to 1-17 loss to Newmarket on Saturday night and spent the night in hospital.
He was released on Sunday but will undergo further tests later this week to determine the extent of his injury.
Waterford's footballers will be without captain Gary Hurney for their Munster SFC clash with Limerick on May 20.
The Abbeyside/Ballincourty dual star sustained a fractured jaw in the late stages of an SFC match against St Saviour's, which will keep him out for two months.
But there was good news for Cork's three-in-a-row Division 1 football champions when Ciaran Sheehan played his first club game since rupturing his cruciate ligament in last summer's Munster final, scoring 0-2 for Eire Og in a league match at the weekend.
