CLARE'S dream season got even better on Saturday night as David McInerney was named the Bord Gais U-21 hurling Player of the Year at an awards ceremony in Croke Park.

The inspirational full-back saw off team-mate Podge Collins and Tipperary's Jason Forde to scoop the award.

The Tulla man was a central figure in the Banner young guns' march to success, picking up two man-of-the-match gongs.

Kildare's Niall Kenny was presented with the award for best player in the 'B' competition.

The right half-forward was in excellent form in this year's championship, culminating in him scoring 2-3 in the All-Ireland final that they lost to Kerry.
