Clara avoid red mist to rout 11-man Oylegate

It was a farce at the finish when Oylegate had two men sent off during the closing 10 minutes to go down to 11 men, but for all the mayhem there was nothing untoward going on as Clara romped to an easy win at Nowlan Park.

It was most unusual to have 11 against 15 at the end, but the numbers game meant little.

The simple story was that Kilkenny side Clara were by far the better team.

The winners kicked off with unanswered points from Keith Hogan (two), James Nolan, Conor Phelan and Liam Ryan inside eight minutes. When Austin Murphy cracked home the first goal in the 20th minute the difference was already 1-8 to 0-3.

The game was looking over by half-time with Wexford side Oylegate 1-11 to 0-3 behind and a man down.

Three more dismissals followed, all for two yellow cards followed by red. As the ref piled up the bookings, Clara piled up the goals and points, with Brian O'Shea (37th and 58th minutes) claiming the big scores.
