Carlow give Model fright of their lives

WEXFORD 2-16 CARLOW 0-20 All-Ireland SHC Qual Rd 1

WEXFORD could not have asked for a sterner examination as it took two late points to shake off a gallant Carlow challenge in this excellent game at Wexford Park yesterday evening.

The visitors surged into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead early on, before Wexford replied with a goal from Padge Doran. Carlow, though, were undaunted and went on to lead by 0-13 to 1-6 at the interval.

Wexford manager Liam Dunne began to empty his bench as the game looked like slipping away, until substitute David Redmond crashed home a 58th-minute goal.

That gave the hosts a 2-12 to 0-17 lead, which they never relinquished, despite Carlow keeping up the pressure.
