Capital's young guns given a French lesson
Wexford 0-22 Dublin 1-17 (After extra-time)
Fifteen points from the excellent Tony French helped Wexford record a deserved two-point extra-time win over Dublin at Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon.
Backed by a stiff breeze, the hosts received a perfect start through Oisin O'Rorke's third-minute goal.
Then points from Paul Winters, corner-forward Cormac Costello and Conor McHugh pushed the defending Leinster champions seven points ahead by the 10th minute.
Wexford were undaunted, though.
They gradually narrowed the deficit through the free-taking of both Sean Kenny and French, with the latter's injury-time free closing the gap to just three points by the half-time interval.
Although the impressive Winters pushed his side four points clear within seconds of the restart, the Model County seized control and looked to have secured victory when French popped up to land a classy score in the 54th minute to leave Dublin trailing by three points.
Dublin rallied sufficiently to bring an enthralling game to extra-time, with half-forward Winters landing a pressure free deep into injury time.
However, that merely delayed the inevitable as French landed four frees in extra-time to confirm Wexford's progress to the semi-finals.
