Braniff haul lifts Down
A personal tally of 1-9 from star forward Paul Braniff was crucial in giving Down victory over Andy Comerford's Kildare side in this entertaining league clash in Newbridge yesterday afternoon.
In an even first half, David Kennedy and David Harney picked off some nice scores for Kildare, but a 34th-minute goal from Braniff helped Down to a four-point lead (1-9 to 0-8) at the break.
Kildare were looking good for victory, though, when David Harney found the net on 42 minutes, but Down hit back five minutes later, and three frees from Simon Wilson helped to secure the two points for the Ulster men.
