JOE Boyle's injury-time point handed Donegal a timely first win of the season yesterday in Letterkenny.
Boyle popped up from centre half-back to seal the deal from 40 metres out.
Boyle's effort came after a late rally by the home side, who scored the final five points of the game to gun down 14-man Sligo, who had Damian Burke sent off.
Donegal were on top for the most part, yet it was visitors Sligo who looked to be on their way to victory 12 minutes into the second half when Derek O'Brien struck a fine individual goal for them.
Donegal got a point back, only for Sligo to react quickly with a Kevin Gilmartin goal.
Helped by the excellent Niall Campbell, who hit 10 points, Donegal turned the tables to hand manager Ray Durack his first win.
