LIMERICK hotshot Declan Hannon is likely to miss most of the Allianz Hurling League because of an ankle injury, WRITES CLIONA FOLEY.

Hannon has joined cruciate victims Seamus Hickey and Paudie Ahearne on the rehab trail after surgery on an ongoing problem.

The towering Adare forward, who is Limerick's first-choice freetaker, will also be a loss to Mary Immaculate College, whom he helped to a Fitzgibbon Cup final last year.

Niall Moran and Shane O'Neill have opted out of the Treaty squad, which will also be without the Na Piarsaigh contingent for the early part of the season as the Munster champions pursue a place in the All-Ireland club final.

Several of last year's Munster minor champions are among the new call-ups. Adare's John Fitzgibbon, Feohanagh-Castlemahon's Barry Lynch and South Liberties William Hickey are also among those given a chance to impress.
