All star Walsh leads Irish defence of 'hybrid' crown

EIGHT-time All Star Tommy Walsh will captain Ireland's hurling/shinty side in Saturday's clash with Scotland in Croke Park, WRITES DONNCHADH BOYLE.

The Kilkenny man also skippered Joe Dooley's side in last year's success, their first win in the series in five attempts. Fellow Cat Jackie Tyrrell is also included in the 18-strong squad that sees representation from 14 different counties.

This weekend's game is a curtain-raiser to the International Rules Test between Ireland and Australia and throws in at 4.45.

The second leg will be played in Inverness on Saturday, November 13.

The U-21 side are managed by Kilkenny's Michael Walsh and they play their Scottish counterparts in Ratoath, Co Meath at 1.0.

Waterford All Star Noel Connors is expected to feature prominently.
