Weld's Sapphire can prove a real gem in Cork showpiece

PROVIDED it survives a precautionary inspection today, there's some Group Three action for Flat followers to look forward to at Cork tomorrow.

The Kerry Group Noblesse Stakes is the main attraction and Dermot Weld looks to have excellent prospects with Sapphire.

A Listed winner at the Curragh last October, Pat Smullen's mount will have no problem with the trip or going and she can utilise her proven stamina to see off Aidan O'Brien's Betterbetterbetter.

The Listed Galtee Midsummer Sprint Stakes has attracted three English challengers, and while the raiders usually have a better record in sprint contests, John Murphy's Gossamer Seed might be good enough to keep the prize at home.

As for today's action at Limerick, David Wachman's Royal Empress can land the opening EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden. The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor came in for support prior to her Curragh debut and made a promising enough start to finish third in the race won by Nandiga.

Wachman is taken to land a quick double as Probably should see off debutant Kingston Jamaica.

Danzerini has the best form on offer by far in the seven-furlong maiden for three-year-olds and is napped to justify favouritism.

Feature event at the Patrickswell venue is the €13,000 EBF Fillies Handicap and a chance is taken on Andrew Oliver's Suzette De Bavay.
