considering that Douvan could be verging close to odds-on should he justify a price of 1/7 at Navan tomorrow, the ante-post market for next March's Arkle Trophy is ridiculously one-sided.
Despite not having jumped a fence in public and with four months to the race, Douvan is a 2/1 shot. It is 12/1 bar him, with his Willie Mullins-trained stablemate Shaneshill - entered at Thurles on Thursday - next on the list.
Sizing John is as big as 14/1. At this stage, he is the sensible ante-post option, as we have seen plenty of him over fences and it is simply impossible not to like what we have seen.
He dotted up on his fencing debut at Punchestown and thrashed a fair standard-bearer in Lord Scoundrel on returning there for last Sunday's Grade Two. A big, handsome sort, he was a Grade One winner over flights, but always looked an embryonic chaser.
Henry de Bromhead excels with this type of horse. Sure, Sizing John was seven lengths behind Douvan at Cheltenham and Punchestown last spring, but he has the scope to reduce that deficit - at the very least.
