It was good to hear Robbie Hennessy confirm this week that Rubi Light will return to three miles for the Guinness Gold Cup at Punchestown next month. Beaten only by the subsequent Gold Cup hero Synchronised on his first stab at the trip in the Lexus Chase, the smart seven-year-old was simply run off his feet en route to finishing fifth in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.

While he would have struggled to turn the tables on Synchronised in the Gold Cup, given the lack of any strength in depth in the race, it would nonetheless have been fascinating to see how he might have fared. Still, should the Punchestown going come up suitably slow for Rubi Light, we ought to get some idea if the Gold Cup third Long Run also turns out.
