Watch: Jockey defies the laws of gravity with miraculous recovery and somehow goes on to win the race
Take a bow Aaron Kuru.
Des De Jeu got it all wrong at the first fence in a steeplechase at Awapuni racecourse in New Zealand. Horse and jockey both slid along the ground before rider somehow managed to leap back into the saddle and get his feet back in the irons in one incredible movement.
One of the most extraordinary wins you will ever see on a racetrack. Jockey @AaronKuru comes off his horse, Des De Jeu, at the first jump only to remount and go and win!@SKYNZ #NZRacing pic.twitter.com/gjrliJF0Wk— TAB Racing (@TAB_Racing) June 16, 2018
His incredible horsemanship was rewarded when his mount wore down his rivals to win.
"It was his first start over the fences and he probably landed a bit steep and just went down," Kuru said.
"I don't really know and can't explain it as it just sort of happened.
"I got back on and he drew himself back into the race. He's got plenty of ability.
"After that first he jumped pretty well although there's still plenty of improvement in him, so it's exciting."
