Smullen catches the eye on Orangey

Wily trainer Bill Farrell has booked Pat Smullen aboard Orangey Red, which looks a notable axis in Listowel's feature sprint handicap tomorrow.

Gowran can be a horrible track if a horse fails to get prominent early - as can Listowel - and this one is forgiven her rather laboured run in Co Kilkenny last time.

Any rain will suit the filly, while it may be that dropping back markedly in yardage will be the making of Althiba in the George Fitzmaurice Handicap. On this one's nursery effort at Leopardstown, she has strong claims, and she did not get ten furlongs at Navan on her last run.

The bet of the afternoon for very many Listowel patrons on a big weekend for owner Godolphin will be New Terms in the Croom House Stud Irish EBF Fillies Maiden. The New Approach filly may have less to do here after a smashing debut run at Flat headquarters for Jim Bolger.

Moritzburg is also owned by Godolphin. Drawn in seven, he has strong claims for Michael Halford in the mile maiden.

The action at Kilbeggan, of course, is over the jumps, with the ground good. Bloomfield House Hotel (Mares) Hurdle sees Dont Kick Nor Bite renew rivalry from Cork with Miss Sapphire. She won convincingly on that occasion, though Miss Sapphire is improving with experience.

The maiden chase introduced a recruit that could be smart. Miss Sapphire's stablemate Bamako Moriviere can provide Willie Mullins with a winner if he jumps well enough for Ruby Walsh on his chase bow.
