It is crunch time for Shinrock Paddy when he makes his reappearance in the Nipper Road Hurdle at Naas on Saturday.

His performance will shape what plans trainer Paul Nolan will make for the Grade One novice hurdler winner.

"He's a horse that takes an awful lot of work and more than likely he's going to come on for a run," said Nolan.

"We couldn't get a grass gallop into him. We've done as much with him at home as we can, but he's in very good form.

"His whole season will rest on how he performs. I'd imagine if he's not good enough, or doesn't run very well, we'll have to consider going chasing with him.

"He's going to have to be at that level to take on the better ones, so it will be interesting to see if he can do that or not."

Shinrock Paddy, who was last seen being pulled up in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, has to give weight to all his five rivals.

They are headed by Triumph Hurdle fourth Carlito Brigante, trained by Gordon Elliott, and Edward O'Grady's Rigour Back Bob, an impressive winner at Down Royal in early May.

Imperial Shabra, Bruach Na Mara and Son Amix make up the field.
