Ruby Walsh made a successful comeback to the saddle this afternoon when partnering Lareena to victory in a Maiden Hurdle at Thurles.

The 11-times top jockey at Cheltenham got in an ideal bit of match practice after his four-month lay-off with a broken leg as he steered his charge to a cosy win.

Walsh always had his horse well placed and struck for home leading for the last hurdle to run out a good winner at 11/8.

He will now have a few more rides over the weekend before taking on the challenge of getting Willie Mullins’ top horses over the line at Cheltenham next week.
