Riven Light takes on Lancaster House at Listowel
Attention turns to the flat for day two of the Listowel Harvest Festival but it appears set to be a clash between the champion trainers across both codes.
The well travelled Riven Light will represent Willie Mullins in the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes and will take on LANCASTER HOUSE (3.25, Listowel) for Aidan and Donnacha O'Brien.
Riven Light won this race in 2017 on his way to tackling big targets in Melbourne, so it will be interesting to see what paths are being plotted for him this time, but Lancaster House has done nothing wrong in two starts and was described as a likely "Group horse" by Donnacha O'Brien following his Tipperary win last month.
That is a ringing endorsement for the son of Galileo and, despite being the most inexperienced runner in the line up, the three-year-old is expected to come good.
It is a credit to Listowel that this €50,000 feature has attracted a full field and the only concern about the mentioned runners would be that they are drawn widest of all in 16 and 17 but their class should help them overcome that.
A potential Ballydoyle brace is on the cards in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Premier Nursery Handicap.
EMPEROR OF THE SUN (4.25, Listowel) will have learned plenty on his second start when winning at the Galway Festival and cheek pieces have been applied for today.
Fresh from a treble at Gowran Park last week, Johnny Murtagh can continue his fine form ahead of Irish Champions Weekend with another winner here courtesy of PEARL WARRIOR (3.55, Listowel).
The Curragh-based trainer actually has a number of decent claims throughout the card today but Pearl Warrior stands out.
Andy Slattery is not only the go-to apprentice of the moment but his ability to claim 5lbs off bottom weight of 8st4lbs is another major plus in a race like this and the hat-trick can be completed by the three-year-old in the colours of Paddy Woods.
Jessica Harrington can saddle her 24th juvenile winner of the season with JUNGLE COVE (2.20, Listowel) setting a fair standard in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.
Jungle Cove has earned a rating of 96 by keeping good company without success and this looks a nice chance to change that.
Dermot Weld is no stranger to bringing a nice type to Listowel and INSAAN (5.25, Listowel) might be worth siding with in the finale, while STORMY BELLE (4.55, Listowel) ran well last time and won't be hindered by any rain before race time.
