Refreshed Cause of Causes can land the nap for Elliott

GORDON ELLIOTT'S Galway Hurdle runner-up Cause Of Causes warrants the nap vote on a rare six-race card at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

A middle-of-the-road spread that doesn't feature any chases, the programme is headed by an interesting novice hurdle.

Cause Of Causes contests the earlier Fairyhouse On Twitter conditions race, a six-runner affair in which Dessie Hughes' potentially useful Si C'Etait Vrai returns for a first time since May 2011.

The veteran Dancing Tornado and lightly-raced Silver Friend -- second to Waheeb here a fortnight ago on its first run for over a year and a half -- are also deserving of attention. However, Cause Of Causes is possibly the most progressive of the lot.

Just denied by Rebel Fitz in dramatic circumstances at Ballybrit, Davy Condon's mount was not his usual self when well beaten at Perth two weeks later. He returns now having been freshened up, so should take plenty of beating.

In the INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Hurdle, Shrapnel, which looked a reformed character when slamming Rory O'Moore on its first start for the stable at Galway, may prove a formidable opponent.

The €13,000 event won't be easily won though, with Benevolent, Seefood, Seriatim and Sizing Gold -- making its jumping bow after winning a Navan bumper for Henry de Bromhead in February -- all respected.

Seefood, representing the in-form Dessie Hughes-Bryan Cooper axis, might be the one to keep on side.

A Clonmel bumper winner in September, the Kahyasi gelding didn't have much to beat when hacking up over course and distance here last time, but he couldn't have been any more impressive. He just might be better than average.

Cooper could also take the opening maiden on Tony Martin's Wingtips. From five starts over flights last season, the four-year-old recorded a fifth and a third in Grade Ones at Cheltenham and Punchestown, respectively. None of his 13 rivals can top that.
