Quiet Reflection surged to the head of the betting for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot with an authoritative display in the 188Bet Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock. Karl Burke's filly, who has now only lost once in her six-race career, was sent off a 7/1 chance against some hot prospects which included Gifted Master, Guineas flop Buratino and La Rioja.

However, none of them had any answer to the Dougie Costello-ridden winner, who quickly put three and three-quarter lengths between her and the rest. It was the biggest win of Costello's new career since he switched from the National Hunt sphere and Coral have Quiet Reflection as their 7/2 favourite for the Ascot heat.

Home Of The Brave justified 9/4 favouritism on his first start in the Godolphin blue as Hugo Palmer's four-year-old landed the Timeform Jury Stakes. He set a steady pace up front as first he saw off Breton Rock and then the late rally of Convey, holding on by a neck. "This was a bit of a recovery mission, but he's a Group Three winner again now," said Palmer.

Frankie Dettori treated racegoers to a flying dismount after Journey ran out a workmanlike winner of the Pinnacle Stakes. Narrowly beaten on Champions Day last year, she was third on her return in the Middleton Stakes at York but just had to be kept up to her work to beat Sweeping Up by a length and a quarter.

The two form horses fought out the finish to the £25 Free Bet At Handicap with Ice Slice (15/2) just holding off Clotilde. Ryan Tate made sure he dictated matters on James Eustace's Ice Slice and try as Ryan Moore might on Clotilde, Ice Slice held on by a head.

Brian Ellison saddled a double, with Zebedaios (6/1) looking to have a bright future after remaining unbeaten in the Free Spins At 188Bet Casino Handicap. Kieren Fallon then lifted home the Ellison-trained Clayton Hall (12/1) in the Mobile Betting At 188Bet Handicap. "I've only had him about 10 days so Richard (Fahey) deserves the credit,"said Ellison.
