Pregnant Nina to miss rest of jumps season
Top amateur jockey Nina Carberry is out for the remainder of the jumps season - yet happy to be - as she is expecting a child.
A sister of recently-retired rider Paul, Nina is married to Ted Walsh Junior, brother of Ruby.
"I am delighted to announce that I am expecting my first baby," said Nina (above) yesterday. "I would like to thank all the owners who have supported me and I wish them every success in the season ahead."
A hugely talented rider, she enjoyed her first Cheltenham Festival victory in 2005 on Dabiroun in the Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle - the first female jockey to win there in 18 years.
Nina became the first female rider to win the Irish Grand National since 1984 when scoring for her uncle Arthur Moore aboard Organisedconfusion in 2011. She has competed in the Aintree Grand National six times - a race her dad Tommy and brother Paul combined to win with Bobbyjo in 1999.
