Piz Badile showed that he is a “proper Group One horse” after taking second in last weekend’s Irish Derby, according to connections of Donnacha O’Brien’s stable star.

The Ulysses colt was a massive disappointment in the Epsom Derby when partnered by Frankie Dettori but bounced back to something like his best at the Curragh under Gavin Ryan with Group One success his goal for the this season.

“It was a very good run. He finished a lot closer to the winner than he had at Epsom, that was very pleasing. We’ll just feel our way before announcing the plan,” Alan Cooper, racing manager for the Niarchos family, said.

“We’re chatting with Donnacha and we haven’t got his next race set in stone yet. We believe he’s a proper Group One horse and obviously we’d like to win a Group One with him this year. From the outset Donnacha felt he was a good horse and I’m glad he is proving it.”

Meanwhile, Eugene O’Sullivan makes the arduous 1,300km round-trip journey to Worcester today with the Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer saddling a pair of runners, both of which the Cork trainer owns.

The Lombardstown handler must have high hopes for Hazran in the opening novices’ handicap chase while Richie McLernon also takes the mount on debutante Dream Getaway in the mares’ bumper, where Gordon Elliott also saddles Say You Say Me in the famous navy silks of Coolmore.

Elsewhere, the Listed Coolmore Ten Sovereigns Tipperary Stakes (5.10) heads affairs at Tipperary today where Aidan O’Brien’s course and distance winner The Antarctic will take some stopping under Ryan Moore having been far from disgraced when seventh in the Group Two Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
