Pathfork leads guineas raid

Jessica Harrington's Pathfork was among eight Irish-trained horses left in the 2,000 Guineas at yesterday's forfeit stage for the April 30 Newmarket contest.

Pathfork provided Harrington with a first Group One triumph in the National Stakes in September, and is third favourite at 14/1 to provide her with a taste of Classic glory.

Aidan O'Brien is responsible for four entrants, including the Group One winners Roderic O'Connor and Zoffany, while Jim Bolger's classy maiden Glor Na Mara has also been left in. Of the 79 fillies still engaged in the 1,000 Guineas, 23 are based here, while 34 of the remaining 125 entries in the 2011 Investec Derby are Irish-trained.

Roderic O'Connor is one of 21 Ballydoyle possibilities for the Epsom showpiece on June 4, though John Oxx, successful in the race for a second time with Sea The Stars two years ago, has just three to choose from. Frankel, Henry Cecil's unbeaten Galileo colt, has been a long-time favourite for the 2,000 Guineas and the Derby, and he goes forward for both races.
