Breeders' Cup hero Mendelssohn looks set to have a big few months in Dubai and America after an impressive return to action in a Listed contest at Dundalk last night.

Aidan O'Brien's colt was quickly away under Ryan Moore in the mile contest, before taking a lead from well-backed stablemate Threeandfourpence.

The Ballydoyle pair settled down to battle it out in the straight, where the easy-to-back even-money favourite asserted in the final 200 yards without Moore having to get serious. Another O'Brien runner Seahenge took the third spot.

O'Brien said of his three-quarters-of-a-length scorer: "You'd be delighted with that. It was nice to get him started and he did everything right, he travelled and quickened well.

"The plan was to come here, then go to Dubai and then hopefully the Kentucky Derby. We always felt that we would need a couple of runs."
