McCain delight at landmark victory

The 9/1 shot landed the opening maiden maiden hurdle in the hands of stable jockey William Kennedy to chalk up the important landmark for McCain, who counts Ballabriggs' 2011 Aintree Grand National success as one of the highlights of his career so far.

McCain tweeted: "So that's it then, 1,000 winners thanks to Lough Derg Jewel! A great effort from all the team and thanks to all who helped along the way."

Meanwhile, Coneygree will definitely not run again before attempting to regain his crown in the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup. Sara Bradstock, wife of trainer Mark, revealed that the 2015 blue riband winner is in a race against time to be fit enough to run again on March 17.
