Manager and owner of Thurles racecourse Pierce Molony has passed away

Pierce Molony, manager and owner of Thurles racecourse, has died following a long illness.

Molony was the fourth member of his family to have taken over the running of the privately-owned course.

Molony leaves behind wife Riona and his four daughters Patricia, Helen, AnneMarie and Kate.

Brian Kavanagh, chief executive of Horse Racing Ireland, tweeted: "RIP Pierce Molony, Thurles racecourse, who passed away overnight. A gentleman. Deepest sympathies to Riona and family."
