MALA BEACH mowed down Defy Logic to claim a thrilling Coolmore N.H. Sires Fame And Glory & Sans Frontieres Novice Hurdle for Gordon Elliott and Davy Condon.

Having finished second to Annie Power last time out, it was no surprise to see the money come for Paul Nolan's free-going Defy Logic and he was sent off the 11-8 favourite under Tony McCoy.

He was soon adopting his customary pacesetting tactics and looked the likely winner when he stretched well clear of the rest of the field heading down the back straight.

However, 12-1 shot Mala Beach came out of the pack to challenge and by the time he rounded the home turn, it was clear the petrol gauge was running low for Defy Logic and Mala Beach drew alongside.

McCoy threw everything at Defy Logic after the final flight but Mala Beach got on top close home to take the Grade Two prize by a head.
