RYANAIR runner-up First Lieutenant is poised to return to three miles for Thursday's Betfred Bowl at Aintree.

The Mouse Morris-trained gelding, which chased home Cue Card in the Ryanair Chase at the Festival, had been running over further this season – finishing third to Bobs Worth in the Hennessy at Newbury before being narrowly edged out by Tidal Bay in the Lexus.

Owners Gigginstown House Stud could also be represented by the Colm Murphy-trained Quito De La Roque, while Oliver McKiernan's Whodoyouthink could bid to emulate stablemate Follow The Plan, a shock 50/1 winner of last year's renewal.

Silviniaco Conti, which fell late on in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, is in line for a retrieval mission for the Paul Nicolls' yard which has also entered What A Friend, part-owned by Alex Ferguson.
