Russell eyes Galway return

Davy Russell was back riding out ahead of his return to action for the start of the week-long Galway Festival on Monday.

Russell took part in a schooling session at Tipperary as he stepped up his recovery after breaking his ankle in a fall at Listowel seven weeks ago.

"I could do with being a bit fitter but I've been riding out again and all's good," he told At The Races.

"I chipped a bone in the joint. I had a pin put in it and I've had a cast on. I've been in good hands. I've now had the cast off and I've been doing some cryotherapy work down in Wexford.

"You really need to be getting on horses. It's like a footballer you need to be match fit and the only way to get that is to play in matches.

"There's been a schooling session in Tipperary today and I've been riding work.

"Fingers crossed I'll be back for Galway. There's good strength in the ankle and I'm happy that I can justify the rides I have."
