It was a week of fun and festivities for punters around the country as they enjoyed this year's Galway Races.

The annual festival drew to a close yesterday with the Mad Hatters Day.

There was lots of entertainment for the young racegoers, including bouncy castles, a children's disco, slides, face painting and crazy characters throughout the enclosure for the family day out.

The general manager of the Galway Races, Michael Moloney, said the festival ran swimmingly.

"We had a good night Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were obviously affected by the weather.

"We've had a huge number of runners and races and some great, big finishes.

"People are here to have a good night and enjoy themselves. I'm really happy with where we are," he said.
