Emperor can reign supreme for Ballydoyle
The popular BBQ meeting series at Naas commences this evening with an all-Flat card that should prove quite profitable for Tipperary-based trainers, including Aidan O'Brien, who saddles just two runners.
While Ice Empress may have to settle for place money in the fillies maiden, Ballydoyle stablemate Emperor Claudius should make the session worthwhile in the Summer Evenings Race. The Giant's Causeway colt, which made no mistake on his seasonal return debut at Fairyhouse a week ago, retains an official rating of 106, indicating he should have the measure here of Jembatt.
Sean Levey will be trying earlier to make the breakthrough for the connections of Ice Empress in a race in which both Feis Ceoil and Gala Spirit hold claims. Marginal preference is for the latter. Eddie Lynam's daughter of Invincible Spirit looked a decent prospect when third to School Holidays and Smart Striking on her debut.
Gala Spirit is ridden by Wayne Lordan, who partnered School Holidays to that victory and the latter, trained by David Wachman, could strike again for the in-form Cork rider in the mile handicap.
Sixteen Forty Two was given a 9lb penalty after winning on his second start at Listowel, but that might not prevent a victory under Michael Cleere in the Kill Handicap.
