Dunlop keeps Cup in family with Times Up

Ed Dunlop enjoyed one of the most satisfying victories of his career when Times Up landed the Doncaster Cup.

Family pressure was on the Newmarket trainer as 12 months ago the same horse gave his father John a last big-race victory in this Group Two before his retirement.

Following an encouraging effort at York last month, the seven-year-old (3/1) turned up in good form to join an elite band of dual winners that include Double Trigger and Millenary.

It was a repeat of last year's result as Times Up had to shrug off the attentions of High Jinx and win by a length and a quarter.

"I've won bigger races but this means a lot. Having done very little right to get him winning again, I'm very chuffed," said Dunlop.

Ihtimal leapt into the picture for the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas with a convincing victory in the May Hill Stakes. The 11/10 favourite, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, powered past Majeyda to win by two lengths and give Godolphin a one-two.

Be Ready (13/8 favourite) gave the Ihtimal team a double by winning the One Call Insurance Flying Scotsman Stakes in style.
