doubts over newbury

Newbury remained raceable yesterday, although a forecast for overnight snow could be crucial to the Berkshire track's prospects of beating the weather tomorrow.

With the covers down, and the likes of Long Run, Sprinter Sacre and Zarkandar all due to have their final runs before Cheltenham, trainers and punters alike are desperate for the meeting to go ahead.

Kempton was supposed to have a National Hunt meeting today, but switched to a bumpers-for-jumpers card on the all-weather track after the turf course was frozen. And, even at that, the forecast for snow means there will be an an 8.0 inspection.

The big Kingmaker meeting for Warwick tomorrow has already been called off and Uttoxeter's meeting has also been abandoned due to frost and snow. Musselburgh are confident their rearranged card will go ahead tomorrow, but Hereford's meeting on Sunday is under serious threat.
