Discoteca seals double for Russell
Champion jockey Davy Russell was the man to follow at Ballinrobe last night as the Cork rider landed an 11/1 double.
Russell's first victory came courtesy of Michael Flannery's Lean Times in the Mulholland Bookmakers Maiden Hurdle.
The 3/1 favourite was sent straight to the front by Russell and went on to beat the fast-finishing Flaming Hymm by a length.
Gordon Elliott's Discoteca caused a minor upset when providing Russell with his second winner in the Tipperary Water Hurdle. Ruby Walsh's mount Darroun was the favourite but Discoteca enjoyed a ready success.
On the Flat, Adrian McGuinness' Beau Michael defied top weight under Ian Brennan in the opening staying handicap -- the gelding's first success since October 2010.
Jimtown enjoyed a step up in trip when scoring in the auction maiden over nine furlongs as Declan McDonogh drove Kevin Prendergast's 4/1 chance clear of Leyland.
The Kevin Condon-trained Mojita bounced back from a disappointing last start to claim a second career win in the EBF (Fillies) Race. Shane Foley guided the four-year-old to a three-and-three-quarter-length victory over Dermot Weld's Cloudracer.
