Devils impresses in Meade's Kilbeggan double
Noel Meade took the training honours at Kilbeggan as the Co Meath handler landed a 12/1 double.
The former champion trainer's first winner came courtesy of Six Stone Ned, which had to dig deep to capture the Mullingar.ie Beginners Chase – a race that saw a host of non-runners due to the good-to-firm ground.
The son of Great Palm – installed 3/1 joint favourite – jumped the last alongside Playtime Ben and Davy Condon got a very willing response from his partner to land the spoils by three parts of a length. Heaney was the other joint favourite and he finished a further 10 lengths back in third.
Meade's other winner looks an exciting prospect as Devils Paintbrush (9/4 favourite) ran out an impressive winner of the bumper. Nina Carberry was always travelling strongly on the five-year-old and she waited until the final furlong to pick off Carrig Rua Lady by four lengths.
Willie Mullins got his customary winner but Dysart Dancer's (13/8 joint favourite) victory in the mares novice hurdle needed all of Paul Townend's strength to prevail. Barry Geraghty had just one ride on the card and it was a winning one as he drove Coolnagorna Giggs (3/1 favourite) to victory in the three-mile handicap chase.
