Dettori gets sweet York tune out of Stradivarius
Stradivarius reinforced his staying credentials with a most impressive success in the Yorkshire Cup.
John Gosden's charge was sent off the 4/6 favourite and Frankie Dettori's mount treated his rivals with contempt down the long home straight on the Knavesmire.
Dettori allowed himself a look between his legs over a furlong out and, when he asked Stradivarius to go and win the race, Desert Skyline and Call To Mind had no response.
"He's a star - it's very rare you get a stayer with a turn of foot, but that is what he has got. It's a deadly combination," said Dettori.
Gosden, who had already won the Middleton Stakes and the Dante this week, said: "Willie Mullins came to make it a proper test (with Wicklow Brave) and I couldn't be happier ."
Third in the St Leger and only a length behind Order Of St George at Ascot on Champions day, Stradivarius is set to renew rivalry with Aidan O'Brien's ace in the Royal Ascot Gold Cup.
Threading ran out a wide-margin winner of an incident-packed Longines Irish Champions Weekend Fillies' Stakes.
William Haggas' Awesometank was not keen on going into the stalls and the delay she caused meant favourite Sheikha Reika got upset and was also withdrawn.
That left Threading (7/2) with just three to beat and she did so in emphatic fashion under William Buick.
