Commander on course

Nigel Twiston-Davies is planning to give Imperial Commander a racecourse gallop at Newbury ahead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in six weeks' time.

"He's great. He's working well and I'm going to talk to Newbury as we would like to take him there for a racecourse gallop in not too long a time," said Twiston-Davies. "Everything's going to plan so far."

Imperial Commander, which is 7/2 favourite to complete back-to-back victories, made a successful seasonal reappearance in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November but was forced out of the King George due to a setback.

Meanwhile, Wymott is likely to make his next appearance in the RSA Chase after a dashing round of jumping on home territory at Bangor yesterday took his unbeaten streak over fences to three.

Bouggler was the only horse to offer a serious challenge to Donald McCain's 8/13 favourite, and Wymott had work to do to remove him from the equation turning for home. Several accomplished leaps later, though, he was safely past the line, 10 lengths clear.

"He's just playing at the job and will be better in a better race. He has two options at Cheltenham but I would imagine he would go for the RSA," said McCain.
