WEBBER MAKES TIME FOR GOLD BID
Time For Rupert will take his place in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The eight-year-old was sent off favourite for last year's RSA Chase at the showpiece meeting after two impressive victories, only to disappoint on the big day.
He has struggled to recapture his best form for trainer Paul Webber this term, with victory in a Newbury graduation chase the highlight of his year so far.
Time For Rupert finished a distant fourth in the Argento Chase on his most recent start and while he is a 50-1 chance with the sponsors for Gold Cup glory, his owners, the Littlecote Racing Partnership, would sooner go for that race than the JLT Specialty Chase on Tuesday.
"He will go for the Gold Cup. The owners have had a look at the handicap and they found a horse hasn't won off his kind of rating since something like 1983," Webber explained.
"The owners bought the horse with the dream of running in the Gold Cup one day, so we thought we may as well take our chance and if we can finish third, fourth, fifth or sixth, that would be great.
"I think a bit of rain would help to slow the others down a touch maybe, but I think most trainers would like to see a drop or two."
