Despite saddling 18 runners since 1997, trainer Paul Nicholls has yet to taste success in this Grade Two amateur riders' race.
Disappointments included Gungadu, which was sent off at 2/1 in 2007 but fell, and Ornais a year later which was fifth of 20 runners at 9/2. The best he's had was Harry The Viking (2012), which hit 8/11 in-running before finishing second to Teaforthree.
Undeterred, Nicholls is back this year with Arpege D'alene, which was reasonably warm in the betting last night at 10/1. The six-year-old was fourth of five runners at Ascot last time having gone off at an SP of 10/11.
