Samcro will miss the Cheltenham Festival and instead be readied for Aintree and Punchestown, trainer Gordon Elliott has revealed.

A winner of the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last season, Samcro was a top-priced 15-2 for the Sun Racing Stayers' Hurdle on Thursday week.

Elliott told his Betfair blog: "There is every chance Samcro could run again this season and there are a range of suitable races for him at other meetings, at Aintree and Punchestown so hopefully we will see him back in action next month.

"Looking further ahead we are looking forward to when he goes chasing in the autumn," added Elliott.

Last year’s top trainer at Cheltenham just ran out of time to get Samcro right for the festival after the horse was diagnosed with a serious lung infection following two below par runs this season.
