Bolger hope Altesse set to 'give thanks'

The Group 3 Give Thanks Stakes takes centre stage at Cork tonight with the consistent Altesse taken to get her reward for a string of placed efforts.

Jim Bolger's four-year-old has never been out of the first three in six career starts and turned in another creditable display when chasing home Panama Hat in a Listed contest at Roscommon.

Aidan O'Brien is triple-handed in this contest with the progressive On A Pedestal taken to be his best hope, but the biggest danger to the selection is likely to come from Zannda - one of two Dermot Weld representatives.

Thought of as a Classic prospect in the spring, Pat Smullen's mount was a respectable second to John Gosden's Jazzi Top at Newmarket before being firmly put in her place by Bolger's subsequent Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Pleascach at Naas.

Running over 12 furlongs for the first time and tried in a visor, Zannda will attract plenty of support but Altesse still looks the safer option.

Roscommon, meanwhile, stages a seven-race National Hunt card with the first three-year-old hurdle of the season getting proceedings under way.

On Flat form, Harry Kelly's recent Killarney winner Lagostovegas and Patrick Prendergast's Ulster Derby fifth King Christophe look the principals, and slight preference is given to the latter with Davy Russell being an eye-catching booking.
