Bishopsfurze makes up for his Slaney flop

Bishopsfurze atoned for his Slaney Novice Hurdle flop with a comprehensive success in the INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Hurdle at Thurles yesterday.

Willie Mullins' six-year-old was always travelling smoothly in the hands of Paul Townend and careered away from Start Me Up after the last as the 11/10 favourite.

Mullins was all set to register a double, with his Lios A Choill holding a lead approaching the final flight in the thurles.ie Maiden Hurdle, but the horse dived at the obstacle, catapulting Patrick Mullins into the turf and allowing The Pier (7/1) to pip Shannon Spirit.

Big Secret also hit the deck with the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase at his mercy. Charles Byrnes' charge got the last fence all wrong and crashed out.

Nearest pursuer Just Friends also made a mess of it, but Robbie Colgan recovered and Denis Cullen's 9/4 favourite beat Rookery Revel by five lengths.

For Bill (9/4) proved a class apart from her rivals in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Beginners Chase.

The biggest prize of the day went to Curragh Grey (9/2) in the Tote Jackpot Rollover Chase. Pat Neville's mare was headed by For A Finish at the last, but she rallied gamely to get back up on the line.

Ballinahow Lady (13/2) lumped 11st 12lb to victory in the Tote Trifecta Rollover Handicap Hurdle, while Dazzling Susie sprung a 25/1 surprise in the Horse and Jockey Mares INH Flat Race.
