Apple shines in workout
Nicky Henderson expressed delight with Triumph Hurdle favourite Apple's Shakira after impressing in a Kempton gallop yesterday while the champion trainer reported stable star Altior to be in "perfect" shape.
The Seven Barrows handler worked a dozen horses on the all-weather surface as part of his final preparations for the Festival and the performance of Apple's Shakira caught Henderson's eye.
Henderson said: "Apple's Shakira was great. She is very laid-back at home. It was just nice to see her come to the racecourse, switch on and do that. She doesn't do much of that at home. She has got a great temperament and she has enjoyed herself."
Henderson, the all-time leading Festival trainer with a staggering 58 winners, also revealed that Champion Chase favourite Altior is in fine fettle as the brilliant eight-year-old bids to extend his unbeaten run to 13 races in an exciting three-way clash with Willie Mullins' Douvan and Min.
"Altior worked this morning and he was very well. He was perfect. It was absolutely superb. He had his race the other day. That was his first gallop he has had since Newbury. He will do a bit at the weekend," he said.
