Alpinist likely to go the Classic route after assured Curragh performance

ALPINIST is likely to be geared towards a Classic campaign following his accomplished victory at the Curragh on Sunday.

The New Approach colt won a competitive one-mile maiden by upwards of half a length to provide trainer Jim Bolger with a four-timer at the first fixture of the Irish turf Flat season.

Alpinist is not entered in the Epsom Derby, but Bolger could plot a route which leads to the Irish equivalent back at the Curragh in June.

"He's going the right way and needs better ground," said the Coolcullen handler.

"He'll probably run in one of the Derby trials."
