LAST YEAR'S inaugural Night of Stars last year proved a massive success and all the ingredients are there for another epic gathering at Shelbourne Park tonight when the supporting card will comprise the National Puppy Stake semi-finals and two valuable Ted Hegarty-supported opens.

The eight Night of Stars contests share equal billing, but the prediction for contest of the night is the 550, where the clash of old favourites Ballymac Vic and Droopys Jet promises to be a little special.

The draw is in favour of Ballymac Vic (10.15) and he may beat Droopys to the bend and go on to a famous victory, while Hawaii Kinsale is drawn to be involved in the red jacket.

Five inside seeds in the Connolly's Red Mills 525 makes the dash to the bend absolutely vital, but Graham Holland's Holborn Junior (10.0) has proved in the past that he can handle an outside draw and he may clear the bend en route to a great run. Fiery Splendour and Ardfert Thunder look the main dangers.

For my bet of the night, I am looking towards Jaytee Hellcat (9.45) in the Dandelion Night Club 575. He was third in the Leger final a week ago, but Paul Hennessy's charge has been crying out for this distance and the run to the bend should sort them out. He can lead home Glenanore Dancer and Rockview Turbo.

The Larry Dunne 600 was won by Sparta Maestro last year and PJ Fahy's Tyrur Sugar Ray (10.30) can claim a long overdue major success in what is a very tricky draw, with Ringtown Snowy and North Bound the major threats.

First of the Night of Stars contests is the Head Bound 350 and the answer here can be provided by Gerry Merriman's Ballymac Matthew (8.46), which is hugely consistent from boxes and can contain Knockglass Billy.

Razldazl Marilyn can lead in the Track Bookmakers 850, but Musical Gaga (9.0) could be one for Britain and trainer Dean Childs.

The Stars of the Night Bitch 525 looks destined for Graham Holland's Rockburst Pearl (9.15), while Larry Mason's Airlie Dazzler (9.30) may take an intriguing Shaneboy Spencer 750 from Groupie Doll and Airforce Duke.

On any other card, the Comerford Cakes semis would be the highlight and these two classy contests can be claimed by Boylesports Hero (8.18) and Sidarian Blaze (8.32).
