The BoyleSports Derby reaches a critical point at Shelbourne Park tonight when the remaining 24 contenders battle it out for the two semi-finals to be run next week.

All four heats will be intriguing affairs and surprises can be anticipated.

The sponsor's favourite Jaytee Taylor (8.42) goes in the first heat where he will have three of the best early pacers in training in opposition.

However, Jaytee is nominated to keep his Derby hopes alive along with Whoops Jack and Cabra Hurricane.

The big three in Heat 2 can be Pat Guilfoyle's Magical Bale (8.57) and the Graham Holland duo Totos Park and Slippy Cian.

Jaytee Taylor's rival in the outright market is Lenson Blinder (9.12) and he is expected to lead all the way in Heat 3 with Doggy Mcdogface and Clonbrien Hero among the main opposition.

Peter Cronin's Crossfield Will (9.27) appears to be hitting form at the right time and he is taken to lead home Coolavanny Gery and Clona Blaze in the final heat.

Meanwhile, Frank Nyhan has been appointed IGB Chairman, taking over from Phil Meaney.
