Sugar Ray can prove Easter Cup pedigree

Michael Fortune

There are five high-class competitions in progress and the tracks should be busy this evening.

Given its great tradition, the Dandelion Bar & Nightclub Easter Cup must hold pride of place with two semi-finals at Shelbourne. The first semi stands out as a real classic, despite the absence of Glenanore Dancer. Frances O'Donnell has three in this race. I feel the winner will be either Tyrur Sugar Ray (9.40) or Skywalker Farloe.

Skywalker Mandy (9.55) can prove too strong in the second heat. Tyrur Arthur runs here. He is capable of qualifying.

The big fancy on the supporting card is Danny Potter's Danmar Jack (9.10) from a great draw over his ideal 575 trip.

The €80,000-to-the-winner Kirby Memorial reaches the second round at Limerick and most of the big fancies can progress.

Graham Holland's Vans Viking (9.16) looks banker material in Heat 3, while Noel Hehir's Ivy Hill Prince (9.31) can dominate Heat 4. Rosemary Price's Deanridge Pennys (9.46) has the perfect draw in Heat 5, while Anna Gleeson's Redwood Mick (10.01) and Declan Byrne's Bubbly Gold (10.31) are others worth noting. Peter Cronin's Swithins Way (10.16) could well turn over Vulturi and Jaytee Barzelona in Heat 7.

The semi-finals of the Gain Feeds Irish Cesarewitch are scheduled for Mullingar with a vacancy in the second heat due to an injury to Clydal Jack. His absence should make things much easier for Peter Cronin's Questoe Per Te (10.25).

Gizmo Classic is drawn to run a big race in the first heat, but here Holland's Garryvoe Jet (10.10) gets the vote.

Moss O'Connor's College Maybe (9.28) is banker material in a semi-final of the Hennerty Sales Cork Oaks at Curraheen Park, while Michael O'Driscoll's Nellies Flyer (9.43) looks the part in the other.

It's semi-final time in the Red Mills Unraced Bitch Stake at Newbridge and John Linehan's Droopys Muriel (9.0) has had her cause helped by the absence of Fane Jaydeeque in the first heat.

Linehan can complete a double with Droopys Sylvia (9.15);the other heat could go to Fechin Mullen's Lislevane Swift (9.30).

Danmar Jack 9.10 Shelbourne

Deanridge Pennys 9.46 Limerick

Skywalker Mandy 9.55 Shelbourne

Questoe Per Te 10.25 Mullingar
